2025 Military Service Recognition Book Published: In the Service of Canada The 20th Volume of the Military Service Recognition Book, In the Service of Canada, was released in late October. Now exclusively available as a digital publication, the newest volume can be viewed on BC/Yukon Command’s website.“This year marks eighty years since the end of the Second World War,” John Goheen and Markus Fahrner write in the Introduction. “With more than a million Canadian men and women in uniform, roughly ten percent of the population, and almost as many working in war-related industries, Canada’s contribution to the final victory in 1945 was enormous. In these electronic pages, readers will encounter stories from that bittersweet final year of war.”All of us at BC/Yukon Command wish to thank John Goheen, Author and Editor, and Markus Fahrner, Graphics and Layout Designer, for their diligent work and dedication to our Veterans. We also thank everyone who submitted stories for this year’s publication. Read In the Service of Canada, Volume 20 |

Memorial Banners
During the Remembrance period, a growing number of Legion Branches are partnering with their communities to develop street banners to honour and memorialize local Veterans who died in service or passed away. To support the Branch Memorial Banner programs, the Legion is pleased to announce that new Memorial Banner templates are available for Branches to download and customize to pay tribute to Veterans who came from your community.
The templates are available in a variety of designs and official languages options and include memorial designs that can feature a local Veteran, plus generic designs with a Remembrance message. Instructions are included for customizing the banners with the Veteran’s photo, name, details of service and the branch of the Canadian Armed Forces in which they served. All banners include space for the Legion Branch logo as well as for a partner/sponsor logo.
Download your templates today and fill your community with memorials to Veterans who called it home.

Commemorative Crosswalks

Note: Community Commemorative Crosswalks are coordinated at the local level. Individuals wishing to honour Veterans through a commemorative crosswalk should contact their local Legion Branch or their City Hall to look at the feasibility.
During the Remembrance period and throughout the year, a growing number of Legion Branches and communities are developing commemorative crosswalks to honour Veterans. The Remembrance Poppy is a Legion trademark and may not be used in any situation where it may be trod upon. To support Branches and communities with their crosswalk initiatives, the Legion is providing an alternative commemorative crosswalk stencil template to honour Veterans. If your Branch would like to bring a Commemorative Crosswalk to your community, the Legion’s new Commemorative Crosswalk stencil templates and step-by-step instructions offer a meaningful and captivating design.
- Select a proposed location and request permission through your municipality or property owner to install a Commemorative Crosswalk.
- Download the template and instructions to provide to the municipality or local sign maker.
- Follow the instructions to size and prepare your stencils and paint the Crosswalk.

This stylized maple leaf honours the service of all of who stood on guard for Canada and is supported by Canadian Heritage for community use. Communities are advised to not include red bands on either side of the maple leaf, to avoid being mistaken for the National Flag of Canada.
Already have a Commemorative Crosswalk? If your community already has a Commemorative Crosswalk, wonderful! Please note, the Poppy should never be used on a crosswalk or where the symbol of Remembrance can be trod upon. A Poppy Crosswalk must be replaced. There is no need to change other crosswalk symbols used to honour Veterans, however if, over time, it needs to be renewed, feel free to use the new template.
